Akal Takhat (also spelled “Akal Takht”) is a Sikh term meaning “the throne of the timeless one.” In Punjabi, Akal refers to the “timeless” or “eternal,” and Takht means “throne” or “seat of authority.” The Akal Takhat, located in the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar, serves as the highest seat of temporal (worldly) authority in Sikhism, representing justice, guidance, and the collective decision-making of the Sikh community.
